LARSON'S TL RANCH HISTORY

The ranch has come a long way since the early 1880s when great-grandmother, Anna Ramsland, and her husband, Ben Ramsland, squatted in the Ramsland Hills near Almont, ND, now known as the TL Ranch. After the death of Ben Ramsland, Anna married Theodore Larson. Together, they raised beef cattle and horses for the US Calvary along with 10 children. Their son, Thorvald, and his wife, Lucille Olin, continued the ranching tradition. They had five children: Joyce, Jake, Lois, Adeline, and Caroline. In 1957, Jake and Virginia "Ginny" Hauge married and had four children together: Julie, Jamie, Jay, and Joel. Jake and Ginny ranched along side Jake's parents until 1966, during which time they took over full operation of the ranch. Jake and Ginny were one of the first Simmental breeders in North America and the first to raise a transplant, purebred black Simmental heifer in North America in 1977, Miss TL K10. Their son, Jay married Tracy Schriock in 1982. Together, Tracy and I have continued raising cattle, focusing exclusively on Black Simmental. The Black Simmental breed is known to be maternally elite with its easy calving, moderate frame, and great mothering ability; they are plus for anyone's herd. We calve our cows on about 800 acres of rolling hills and coulees, weather permitting. The first-calf heifers are kept around home, and we start calving toward the end of March. Our calves are not creep fed, because we want to know the actual performance of the cow and to give you, the buyer, the most accurate performance records available on our bulls.

Tracy and I are blessed with four children: Amanda, Devon, Rilie, and Garret. We hope that we to will be able to pass on the tradition of ranching to our children someday. Thank you for visiting our website and we hope to see you on sale day!
